My brother-in-law’s father owned a business, and he was very good at it. When my brother-in-law, also an engineer, joined the business to work with his Dad growing the business, he would say, “Dad, we need to do some different things here. His Dad would say, “This is the way I’ve always run the business, this has always worked for me, we’ve always had these contracts, this is the way I work with relationships, and I’m not worried about making any big changes.” And so, for years, my brother-in-law worked for his Dad and couldn’t implement any changes in the business.
He then later told me when his Dad died, the business wasn’t in a very good place, and he could now implement the changes. He said, “My Dad had to go away before I could actually function as myself.”
He then built up the business! It was an incredible story about how he got out of debt and was successful with the changes he put in place. And that is the story for me…
Jesus had to leave; Jesus had to go. What we are doing, it seems to me, is that we are still looking for Jesus to run the business. We are doing this always wanting to be led by the Spirit. But Jesus is saying:
RUN THE BUSINESS! Do it!
We have to do it; we have to step up.
